Tesla Announces The Model S
There’s just not all that much eye candy out there for us environmentalists. Really. I mean it. Expensive, shiny objects are in short supply. So imagine how I perked up when I saw the new Tesla Model S reveal on the local news last night.
I’ve been in love with Tesla Motors since I first heard of them a couple of years ago. Sleek, sporty, fast, and above all, one hundred percent battery operated. Good for the road, good for the environment. The original Roadster would appeal to non-family singles with deep pockets – the base price sits around $101,000.
By comparison, the Model S, seems like a deal at $49,000 (after the full $7,500 US federal tax credit on battery-powered cars). A family sedan that gets up to 300 miles per charge, has a 45 minute short charge capability, 0-60 in 5.6 seconds, and seats 7 people.
Yep, at that price it will still be out of the reach of most families. But it’s good to know that someone is even making the effort.
Visit the Tesla Motors Web Site for more information.
